Tuffy's Car Washing Tips

posted on
  1. When you see contaminants like dead bugs or bird droppings on the paint surface of your car, rinse them right away. Bird droppings have a high acidity that can eat into the clear coat. If not removed they can dig deep into your paint, leaving “scars” that can only be removed by sanding and repainting.
  2. Don't wash your vehicle during the hottest part of the day. The soap and water dry much faster and can dull the finish.
  3. Spray the vehicle off with the water hose before washing. A pre-rinse will cool off the sheetmetal, and remove any dirt or debris that might scratch or damage the paint.
  4. Don’t use a household detergent to wash your car. It can strip off the protective wax coating and possibly dull the finish.
  5. Wash the vehicle in sections to help prevent soapy water from drying on the paint before you can rinse it off.
  6. When you rinse your vehicle, position the water hose at a low angle to the surface and let the water gently stream across the metal for a complete rinse with little to no splashing.
  7. Use a chamois, terry towel, or synthetic chamois to dry the vehicle.
